Call:  Transitions

The Seabury – Western Art Gallery is accepting submissions of original fine art for mid-May-June-July 2008 show showcasing personal and communal transitions. Transitions engender growth and change. They challenge our assumptions about relationships, values and priorities. Some transitions occur within a religious or spiritual framework, some in a cultural context, while others happen in isolation. The artist should consider how transitions provide courage for the future and help celebrate the past. Themes may include but not limited to: journey, community, empowerment, struggle, liberation.

Artists may submit up to 10 slides or 300 dpi. jpgs and should include a list of slide or file descriptions with title of artwork, dimensions, date, format and price. Artists should also include a biography and artist statement.

Located on the North Shore of Chicago in the diverse and dynamic city of Evanston, Seabury-Western Theological Seminary is itself in the midst of a transition to offer more forward-looking theological education in a rapidly changing context. As it reinvents itself it seeks to partner with visual artists who can offer challenge and encouragement for transition through their work.

Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2008. There is a $15 entry fee. Submissions will be accepted through snail mail only and must include a SASE if you would like items returned. No e-mail submissions will be considered.

Upon acceptance, the gallery will negotiate delivery/pickup with the artist. Mail to: Seabury-Western Theological Seminary ATTN: Arts Coordinator, 2122 Sheridan Rd., Evanston, IL. 60201. For more information contact: Tyrone Fowlkes at 847.328.9300 or email: tyrone.fowlkes@seabury.edu.
